The objective of this design/build renovation project was to increase living space in a 1948 brick colonial two-story box. The overall design focused on creating space for a growing family with two children and accommodating a husband and wife who differed significantly in height. Living space was increased considerably with the addition of three levels that encompassed a new master suite, kitchen and family room, as well as a useable addition to the basement.
The objective in this phase of the design/build project was to better utilize and enjoy the moderately sloped back and side yards, connect the house to the yard, and integrate the second-level screened porch existing on the south side of the house. An elevated wraparound porch over the slope allowed this section of the property to be better utilized as a form of enjoyment and increased outdoor space for entertainment. The wraparound porch also tied the house together and helped to support another phase of the design/build project – a second-story shed dormer addition.
